As of now, the United States is experiencing a great shortage of registered nurses personnel in there area. It was projected that it will increase more as the years goes by as the population is increasing and nurses that available now are getting into their retirement years. With this concerned, the United States created several alternatives in order to counter act this situation. The alternatives that they created are the recruitment of foreign registered nurses and utilizing the availability of the licensed practical nurses in the nation.
No wonder that United States is hiring several registered nurses from different across the globe especially to the developing nurses. As well, the importance of the licensed practical nurses takes into consideration. But what is really a practical licensed nurse? What is its role in the nursing world? Well Practical nurse is a vocational nursing course. When they get their licensure, they become licensed practical nurse. The licensed practical nurse provides a basic nursing care to the patients such as getting the vital signs of temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration. As well, they perform first aid treatment. Usually, there are the ones who are visible to the patients. In which, they monitor the condition of the patients and record any observable condition. The function of the practical nurse is more on the basic duties of a nurse. All their job functions are under the supervision of the registered nurse and the physician.
The government must take importance of the licensed practical nurses because they can become a great help in the field of healthcare. They perform a remarkable function that will develop the health care system to its progression. In which, the government must give the licensed practical nurse a chance to develop their skills and abilities thru establishing lots of training for them. With the decline of the registered nurse the licensed practical nurse is much a great help in the nursing team. Although, they only limited to perform job nursing function but still there presence is a great help.
There is also the so-called sad plight of many nurses in Asia and other parts of the world because they are there in the United States as caregivers in the institutions for the aged, older persons and other ones that took care of orphanages. Although there are some nurses that also work as registered nurses in the US the majority are not working as nurses.
Nurses in third world countries have been dreaming to work in the US to actually improve their lives. They knew that even for a three-year contract overseas it would be a very significant help for the families.
In the Philippines alone, even with the announcements of the Health Secretary of the alarming shortage in nurses, many professional nurses still continue to leave the country. This, despite leaving their loved ones - for the sake of getting considerable sum of money and help their families who’ve been plunging to much crisis and poverty.
These are some of the many reasons why nurses are not actually working in the US according to the profession.
• Nurses usually work in the US because of the high salary offers of many employers abroad. They needed more income for the family and they don’t care if they only work as caregivers.
• Nurses in Asia are not accredited by the US since they still need to undergo several examinations to become licensed nurses in the US. The US government has some kind of accreditation which many Asian nurses abroad are not qualified because they have not yet took the exams and passed.
• The demand for caregivers in the US is high rather than registered nurses. That is why many nurses are accepted to work abroad but they’re not actually working in hospitals but in other health care institutions such as home for the aged, physically handicapped persons, mentally challenged and other institutions that took care of persons under circumstances.
• The dollar currency is one of the very attractive ones of the world. Although the arrival of Euro currency in Europe is also the second choice now of majority of the professionals.
