The scholarship programs of Kaiser Permanente have several categorical amounts. The scholarship amounts of $1,000 to $2,500 are to be given to the selected nursing students who will be pursuing the nursing degree. The nursing students who have qualified in this scholarship program have been chosen based on the examination that were conducted to them. As well, it was also base on their GPA rate in their previous educational status. To individuals who will be pursuing the nursing degree, the required academic excellence rate base on the GPA is a minimum of 3.9. While in the graduate or doctoral studies the GPA rate is 3.0. As well, Kaiser Permanente will also give an additional $1,000 scholarship nursing awardees affiliated in their institution.

The issue of nursing shortage have continually spreading across the region and places in the United States. Just like the case in Maryland, in which the supply rate of the nurse in their area can’t meet the booming population rate of the people living. SAN ANTONIO – A troubled nursing home is told to close down by the state regulators due to some major problems the school has been facing such as safety of the patients. As a result of the closure order many patients were transferred in other institutions. The state had finally ordered the hone to shut down the facility on Saturday for security matters. Many nurses were even very emotional when they saw patients taken out of the facility. For Nurse Johnny Rodriguez, he cried because the order of the state would mean they are also fired out from their nursing jobs.

Bobby Rodriguez, a nursing assistant also cried, saying he pitied the 21 residents of the institution because they don’t know where to go. He said workers have even volunteered to work without pay on shifting basis just to keep the 21 residents alive and sustaining. “Nobody cared for us and our problems.” The Mayfield Care Center has been under observation and investigation by authorities after there were reports the nursing school is no longer giving quality education. In November, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, was found to have very poor quality. The situation in said school is no longer okay. It was David French the new administrator who had decided to close the school as it already pose danger and threat to safety, according to his attorney’s letter which was also furnished to the San Antonio Express-News.

In April 2007, the nursing home had already received complaints. The state regulator record showed that since April of this year the school has already a record of 17 violations. The violations were recorded in two categories, it was learned. It had 17 violations for federal standards and another 20 violations for state standards. Most of the violations recorded were on medication errors and staff members failed to give patients food to eat and water to drink. In fact, for safety violations, Mayfield was fined $100,000. It also owed government taxes of more than 100,000, the letter concluded. As of this writing the owner of the Mayfield is unreachable for comments.
